Mary’s Meals Northern Ireland goes for gold at charity awards
Last month, some of our wonderful volunteers were awarded for their incredible contribution to Mary’s Meals at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising Northern Ireland Awards. The annual event is a special evening which celebrates outstanding fundraising efforts in Northern Ireland; recognising teams, individuals and organisations that raise vital funds for charity.
Mary’s Meals volunteer Pat McNeill took home the award for Volunteer of the Year and the brilliant Ann Curry was highly commended in the Special Recognition Award category for her annual Walk to Knock sponsored walking event. Plus, the Armagh and Servite Priory Benburb Group were highly commended in the Volunteer of the Year group category!
Congratulations to everyone who received acknowledgement at the awards. Without you, our work would not be possible.
Step by Step to Feed the Next Child returns
Our volunteers and supporters in Northern Ireland are once again pulling on their walking shoes for the Step by Step to Feed the Next Child walking challenge to raise money for Mary’s Meals and help feed hungry children in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Aiming to complete 250km, groups from seven locations across Ireland will walk step by step throughout August to reach Knock in County Mayo on Thursday, 15 August.
John McKenna, a volunteer in Northern Ireland, is involved in the organisation of the yearly walking challenge. He says, “The Step by Step walk is a fantastic opportunity for people across Ireland to take part in this August. Each year, we welcome supporters from all over the island as they get together in union with the children we feed, who often walk long distances every day to receive a meal in school.
"People can participate in any way they like, from walking in groups or pairs in their local area, joining us part of the way or even doing the full 250km! No matter how supporters choose to get involved, it's a great way to get active while raising funds for Mary's Meals.”
Best of luck to all the walkers taking part in the Step by Step challenge this year! Thank you for helping us keep our promise to more than 2.4 million children each school day.
