Shropshire volunteer group raise more than £6,000 with active challenge

Inaugural Shropshire Three Peaks Challenge saw 65 participants move for Mary's Meals

A group of dedicated Mary’s Meals volunteers from Shropshire hosted a tough physical challenge in September, raising more than £6,000 to help us feed hungry children.

The 65-strong group of participants took on the inaugural Shropshire Three Peaks Challenge, walking and running 10 miles with 2,450 ft of elevation on the Lawley, Caer Caradoc and Hope Bowdler peaks.

Alison Staples, a volunteer who helped put on the event, says: “We are so pleased with how this first event went and how much people enjoyed taking part, despite the rain!

“The Shropshire Three Peaks event has enabled 313 children to have a meal a day for an entire school year – that makes all the hard work really worthwhile.”

Hannah Moore, Supporter Engagement Officer for West Midlands and North Wales, says: “The Shropshire Mary’s Meals volunteer group was only formed this year and so far they have raised the profile of the charity significantly within the county with this event and others.

“Each volunteer has brought their unique skills and talents to the work of raising money for Mary’s Meals and I’m excited to see what they will do next!”
