Mums Make Mary’s Meals!

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the many women who help to feed hungry children all around the world.

In the 18 countries where we serve our life-changing meals, it is most often mothers, grandmothers or aunts who lovingly volunteer to prepare, cook and serve the food. They do this so that their children, and children living in their communities, can have the chance of a better future.

Mum of three Rebecca is a volunteer cook at Lotirikipi nursery in Turkana, Kenya. Each day, Rebecca rises early and makes several trips to fetch water from the river so she can prepare Mary’s Meals.

She didn’t have the opportunity to attend school as a child, and she volunteers because she knows how important food and education are for children growing up in her community.

She says: “I hope that all the children finish school. The food that Mary’s Meals is bringing is making them healthy.”

Mum of three Annie Gardner supports our work from her home in London. It was her 15-year-old son Dan who first told her about Mary’s Meals.

She says: “He learned about Mary’s Meals at school and was so inspired he encouraged me find out more. I was impressed by the simple vision of feeding a child in school to help break the cycle of poverty and wanted to do something to help.”

Thanks to her son’s encouragement, Annie completed a sponsored 15 day-trek to basecamp Everest, raising enough to feed more than 280 children for an entire school year.

This Mother’s Day you can send a Mother's Day gift card and show your appreciation for the amazing women in your life while helping to feed hungry children. Each card priced at £15.90 will feed a child for an entire school year.

And children and adults alike can get creative by colouring in our special card, designed by inspiring illustrator Johanna Basford, and sharing it with their loved ones. This card is free to download, but please do make a donation if you enjoy colouring it in.

It costs just £19.15 to feed a child for a whole school year.
