Mary's Meals and The Daily Express

Thank you for your interest in Mary’s Meals. The Daily Express is supporting our Crisis In Ethiopia appeal.

The current situation in Ethiopia is dire. A combination of drought, displacement, and brutal conflict has left huge areas of the country in crisis. Tigray, where we work, is one of the worst affected. Millions of people, including children, are now facing emergency levels of food insecurity and hunger.

The two-year civil war has undone years of progress in Tigray’s education system and we know the impact of children missing years of learning is huge. For now, there is an urgent dual priority – ensuring that children in Tigray have food and boosting their chances of engaging with education again.

In recent months, many children have been able to return to school. Though many more children are not yet back at school because of debilitating hunger – they cannot concentrate in class and are spending their days looking for food.

Expanding to feed more children

As funds allow, our partner is ready and waiting to extend the programme to more schools, in areas of great need across the region. We will work together to reach as many more children as possible with daily meals in school over the coming weeks and months.

There is something you can do. You can give these desperately hungry children a chance at a brighter future.

Express Readers responded to our Christmas appeal with incredible generosity. If you’re able to, please donate today for the children of Ethiopia.
